Deep dive: the science and significance of soil carbon

Soil represents one of our most vital natural carbon sinks, yet the process of how it captures and stores atmospheric carbon often remains a mystery. To fully appreciate soil’s role in climate action, we need to look beneath the surface and understand the fundamental science at play.

This webinar helps demystify the science of soil carbon sequestration, translating complex biological processes into clear insights. We will walk through the journey of carbon from the atmosphere to the ground and explain the standards used to measure these outcomes effectively.

Join us as we explore how robust data and sound science work together to turn healthy soil into a trusted, verifiable climate solution.

Thomas Gent

Farmer and Regenerative Agriculture Lead, Agreena

Thomas Gent is the 4th generation on his family farm in South Lincolnshire. They have been farming regeneratively for around 17 years. Thomas has only ever farmed using regenerative principles and sees himself as part of the next generation of regenerative farmers. The family farm consists of around 800 ha of arable combinable cropping recently integrating more multi-year lays to diversify the rotation. Thomas founded the Gentle Farming brand to help sell his crops directly to companies looking to build a regenerative supply chain. He also works with carbon farming company Agreena to help farmers across Europe to transition to more regenerative practices.
